One of the most well known passages in scripture is from Ecclesiastes 3:1-8.  In many respects it is about the passage of time and the rhythm of this wonderful planet Earth.  Matt Maher, on his new CD entitled “Empty & Beautiful” has encompassed the beauty and passion of this text and has put it to a clock-like driving rhythm in the song “For Your Glory.”  As you listen to this song you can’t help but think about the passing of time.  Every instrument in his band is pounding out a strong 2/2 tick-tock rhythm.   His lyrics are so expertly crafted that as soon as I heard this song; I wanted to present this piece as my offering to the Lord in worship.  Of course, just performing this piece with your praise band is one way, but in this case, the scripture is so poetic and beautiful, how about emphasizing it as follows:

First Reading by the Worship Leader:

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:

a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot,

a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build,

a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance,

Performed by the Sanctuary Band (verse 1):

There is a time to live,

There is a time to die.

There is a time to laugh,

There is a time to cry.

There is a time to dance,

A time for joy’s embrace,

And in all seasons, God

we humbly seek Your face.

Pre-Chorus:

This is our offering to You,

This is our offering.

Chorus:

Everything I am is for Your glory,

Everything, I am for You, Lord.

Everything I am is for Your glory,

Everything, I am for You, Lord.

*Pause in the music*

Second Reading by the Worship Leader:

a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain,  a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.

Performed by the Sanctuary Band (Verse 2):

There is a time to sow,

There is a time to reap.

A time for victory,

A time to claim defeat.

A time to be renewed,

A time to be reborn.

In all seasons, God

we bow before Your throne.

Pre-Chorus:

This is our offering to You,

This is our offering.

Chorus:

Everything I am is for Your glory,

Everything, I am for You, Lord.

Everything I am is for Your glory,

Everything, I am for You, Lord.

*Pause in the music*

Third Reading by the Worship Leader:

What does the worker gain from his toil?  I have seen the burden God has laid on men.  He has made everything beautiful in its time.  He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.   I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live.  That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil—this is the gift of God.  I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it.  God does it so that men will revere him.

Performed by the Sanctuary Band:

Bridge:

The earth stands still without You.

We could only move because You made us to.

The world is nothing without You.

We could only love you because You made us to.

Chorus:

Everything I am is for Your glory,

Everything, I am for You, Lord.

Everything I am is for Your glory,

Everything, I am for You, Lord.
