Reading the Bible

Reading the Bible

By Bob & Steve Brown

I yearn to read the Bible
Usually during that quiet hour
For the Holy Spirit is my invisible teacher
As He opens it up like a desert flower

I read the Old Testament history
Of the battles and prophets of old
I love the Psalms and Proverbs
Where wisdom quickly unfolds

I read of the glorious Gospel
And the deeper epistles of Paul
Revelation then speaks of the future
And my Savior, who’s my all in all

So let the Word of Christ dwell richly within
Study and know you are approved
The Holy Spirit will help you
So that you to, will not be moved

All scripture was given by inspiration
It will guide and give sight
It will surely be a lamp unto your feet
And to your path, a light

The above poem was written by Bobby Brown, author of ”Seated Above Looking Below.”

The Book

The bible is the most unique book ever written.
It is the best selling book of all times, all cultures and in all languages.
There are more Apps dealing with the bible than any other book.
There are more websites dealing with the bible than any other book.
There are more blogs dealing with the bible than any other book.
It has been questioned and scrutinized more than any other book on earth.
No one has ever been able to disprove any of it’s authenticity.
No one ever will.
It has been preserved like no other book.
Every letter
Every syllable
Every verse
Every paragraph
Even every selah
Some have dedicated their life to preserving it.
Some have dedicated their life to transcribe it.
Some have dedicated their life to defend it.
Some have dedicated their life to transmit it.
Some have dedicated their life to preach it.
Some have dedicated their life to teach it.
Some have dedicated their life to live by it.
Some have dedicated their life to uphold it.
Some have dedicated their life to believe it.
It’s fidelity is perfect.
Historians and archeologists, not Christians, have proven it.
It is perfectly reliable.
It is perfectly infallible.
It is God’s omniscient word.
It is inspired.
It is God speaking to us.
It stands alone.
It changes everything.

Before reading the bible, pray for God to transform you through it.

Ezekiel 36:26 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.

In the beginning, God Created…

It’s a New Year. I should read the bible, cover to cover.

In the beginning, God created…
1-2-3-4-5
Ahhh, the first five words of the bible.
And we are in deep trouble with some people already.
“What beginning?” Yes, there was a beginning to the universe.
“What God?” Yes, there is an almighty.
“Created?” Yes, the world was created by God.

You have to love this about God. No beating around the bush. He tells it like it is.
Bold opposition to any theory of cosmology
Bold opposition to any theory of evolution
Bold opposition to a godless universe
Bold opposition to an eternal universe
Bold opposition to any Big Bang theory
Bold opposition to any other God or deity
And scripture has barely started to be revealed
God hasn’t even cleared his enormous throat yet
And most of the world is in opposition
Against the ropes
In a defensive posture already

In the beginning, God created…
The advent of the universe in time and space is being described here
Not a beginning to God
A beginning to his gigantic creation
The universe had a beginning
God never had a beginning
Infinite with respect to space
Eternal with respect to time
His existence has no start or end time
The dimensions of His existence are everlasting to everlasting
He always has been
He always will be

Hmmm…..
Now on to the next five words in Genesis!

– based on the writings of R.C. Sproul and Moses

God wrote a love letter to you, it’s called the bible. Read it lately?
