By His Wounds

One of the songs that we will be singing in the upcoming season of Lent is “By His Wounds” by Mac Powell of the band Third Day.  I classify this song a scripture song because it basically takes a passage of scripture and puts it to music without any additional fluff.

By His Wounds is based on Isaiah 53:5:

He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.

What I really like about this type of song is that it doesn’t get too wordy in expressing a vital truth.   Sometimes less is more and sometimes keeping it simple can be effective and worshipful – at least to me.
